Monthly Archives: August 2007

today, i was featured by “duc ly” the paper/notebook guru ive been chatting with for sometime now. he was so interested about the paper i used in the journal i gave him… i didnt realize it would be a big deal. Papers made by the Franciscans. Although i got to think that the nuns really didn’t make them. (lol) i think it might have the same feel of having those handmade papers made inthe mountains of thailand…

i told him about the journal my nun friend in east timor sent me. so intrigued about the cinnamon stick i mentioned.

Tschi’s Journal gift, originally uploaded by Duc N. Ly.

my gift for the paper guru, Duc Ly. this is a rather small journal. the smallest ive ever made actually.
Inside sheets are handmade paper, made in a local Franciscan’s convent here in Cebu, Philippines.
Handbound and handstitched with olive waxed cord. The genuine leather cover is backed by another textured handmade paper to add drama…

inside sheets: kraft paper

im thinking of looking for retailers for my paper stuff. hmmmm local and international. -=)

i read my facebook inbox and duc sent me a message “i like your bookbinding post” and i thought … well, perhaps he is a mindreader of some sort because i just made some “bookinding thoughts” today and didnt get much chance to write it down on the net (thanks to my husband reading the Manny Pacquiao blog) i was stuck with my index cards and colored pencils daydreaming about making and selling more handmade journals and notepads for christmas and the last quarter of the year. so here are my thoughts which i hope duc will like…

* kraft paper+corrugated board wire-o bound journals :: these will come in different sizes. It may come as plain / bare / naked journals, but i can utilize my truckloads of ephemera to make unique covers….

* i still have lots of leather to make into these journals, i hope to make small ones. complete with leather cord as enclosure. instead of using white paper, i plan to use these brown kraft papers or thick sketch papers… some of these will be stitched on the side and some are not.

* i am inspired to recylce… covers and inside sheets. but perhaps not all at once. i have some really nice leather bags. (coach, RL,liz claiborne) that is too expensive to throw but will surely be frowned upon when used as a bag. so i plan to make covers out of them. when using recycled inside sheets, i can use “fresh” leather as cover…ill just see where this goes…

timetable? now thats critical. ill test out this plan in a week o two. all depending on the availability of extra funds.. and extra time.

i decided to dedicate this blog to my passion. paper. so today, i deleted my previous posts thats not related to paper, journals…

here i will attempt to document my adventures and misadventures in bookbinding, journaling, scrapbooking and graphic design.

to start off, ill post my current works…
